Construction of deep excavations has always been considered one of the most difficult tasks of underground construction. Recently, the urgency of the task is growing due to the growing demand for underground multi-level parking lots located under residential and commercial complexes. This is especially evident in such a huge metropolis as Moscow, where almost every house or shopping center in the city should have an underground parking lot.
Meanwhile, the construction of pits in an extremely dense urban development has its own characteristics. First of all, this concerns the impossibility of installing excavation shoring with the help of driving piles or dowels because of the negative impact on surrounding buildings. When installing foundation pits in the city, it is necessary to consider its influence on the surrounding buildings, utilities and the metro.
Further we look through the basic types of enclosing structures used for excavation support.
1. Installation of sheet piling with metal structures (Larsen tongue, steel pipe, and other types of rolled metal). In the case of pipes and rolled products, a board-to-board assembly is possible;
2. Installation with a method of carburizing (jet grouting) with the use of anchors for additional fastening;
3. Installation of dowel with the help of bored piles:
- Location of piles in increments (possibly with the use of a plank of boards);
- Tangent pile walls. Possible cementation of places between the piles (jet grouting).
- Bored-secant piles (solid wall).
4. Slurry wall. The construction of an excavation support enclosures using the Slurry wall technology consists in the excavation of deep narrow trenches under the protection of a clayey mortar followed by concreting with the method of a vertically moving pipe. Trenches are developed by separate grapples with the length in terms of the size of attachments which are usually 2-3 m.
Land cofferdam can be used as:
1. Temporary construction for a period of performance of construction and installation work in the foundation pit with subsequent extraction - mainly Larsen's tongue and less often the pipe;
2. Constant construction-part of the foundation.
